It depends on (obviously) how hard and where. I mean, you are talking internal organs, and in some places nerve exists from your spine. That can't be risk free.
I do like the deep feeling of a punch breaching my abs, but there are ways to get that feeling while still largely protecting yourself. Also rules on where and how to punch. You can see me making myself super vulnerable in the video linked form my blog, where part fo the time i do a partial vacuum (which really makes me vulnerable) yet still partially fixed/tensed.
I know a lot of guys like it but there are stories of serious injuries - including harry houdini's death.
