Just discovered this. Size matters? Gordon the magnificent Scott battling to the death a taller, heavier opponent in "Trappers." Many, many viewings 😍 and slo-mo really fine.

Aries,
You are just discovering that Trappers fight scene?!? One of Scott's top 3. You and I should do one...

Hell no! 😄 I just discovered this topic thread. Gordon Scott fan since my teens. Devout fan. A buddy says at this point my devotion is necrophilia. Everybody's a damn critic! Jungle man challenge a desired fantasy of mine. Dust off your loincloth. Would love to combine several bits of action from Scott and Barker movies into a match. Spread-eagle torture, as advertised in "Tarzan's Fight for Life" among them.

Always happens in threes.....Dave Prowse (Darth Vader) died the other day and now Rafer. Although I always preferred Gordon Scott I think by far the best fight sequence is at the end of Great River. As a villain I think he was a great one against Tarzan as was obviously just as strong as the apeman and could take him to the limit.

The only minor problem was I think Mike Henry was a little bigger than Barcuna. Some of us prefer the hero to be smaller than the villain. The way the fight scene was shot it was not a big deal. It might have been more noticeable if it had been a longer fight scene.

Oh yes I agree it would have been better longer and in point of fact I always think some of the moves/holds look far too 'staged'. I think it was the location and the idea of Tarzan battling on the bamboo bridge then falling to ground, into water etc...........but I do agree with you a slightly smaller Tarzan, but still well built against what might look like a person who could possibly defeat him. Incidentally it takes a bit of searching but there is an alternative scene in that fight.......when Tarzan and Barcuna fall from the bamboo landing hard on the ground, most copies show then go straight to grappling. But I have seen copies where they fall and are both knocked senseless for a few seconds.............Tarzan struggles to come round and Barcuna slowly comes too as well...............then they go into the grappling scene

In watching these (over and over and over) I was always surprised how Mike Henry's hair changed between scenes - - funny as hell!! But HOT action none the less!!

Yup. I have seen both versions of the fight. All the versions are slowly disappearing...

Olympic gold medalist and villain in two of Mike Henry's Three Tarzan movies, died today. A lot of us watched the fight scenes from those movies over and over and over again. I think they use the same footage for both movies. Some of you other Tarzan fans might be able to verify that. Rafer Johnson was a big part of who I am as a jobber. Those who know me well might know what I'm talking about. He was Barcuna in Great River and Nagambi in "Tarzan and the Jungle Boy".
Pro wrestler and executive Pat Patterson also died today. He was not perfect, but he was out of the closet in a very hostile industry. He had guts.
This is the villain/superhero group though, so
I would like to hear if anybody has any thoughts about Rafer Johnson. I know I am bummed out after hearing about these two Heroes of mine.
