Not sure I’d be confident enough.

This is an interesting topic. Frequently I have met guys that I really fancy a wrestle with. A very few times I have moved the conversation on to “have you ever done martial arts” but on only one occasion have we gone on to discuss wrestling. Sadly on that occasion, which was some years ago (in the office)
I never had the courage to give a challenge . I would now if that conversation ever comes up again.

How did you manage that? Just approached and asked if they wanted to wrestle? Did they know what scissors were before being wrapped in your legs?

Has anyone had success in finding guys at the gym or locally to wrestle?

I’ve had great success, but it takes time.
I’be gotten skilled at working wrestling & martial arts into conversations. Working into conversations about sports played, workout activities, things I miss about places I’ve lived have all worked. I’ve commented on guy’s physiques or stances when they remind me of wrestlers neck’s or a martial artist’s sense of balance or way of moving. Once a guy used the phrase “take it to the mat”; that peaked my interest and I commented he sounded like a wrestler! He had wrestled years ago; we had a good match about a week later.
Having mats at home makes it easier to ask guys about “working out” sometime. It also seems to raise fewer red flags when martial arts are talked about at the same time as wrestling; it gives guys more ways to relate to the activity.

Agreed, the main way is to look for those trigger words to elaborate more on. Also, it does take time. I find it hard to jump into the subject of wrestling without some general chat to get things going.
